Separation Processes, Particle Technologies, Water and Wastewater Treatment
Separation processes and particle technologies, Water and tertiary wastewater treatment with depth filters, treatment of agro-industrial wastewaters with membranes (ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis) and isolation and purification of organic compounds with high added value, coagulation/flocculation/precipitation methods, Computer- aided simulation of particles flow and deposition within porous media (dynamic behaviour)
Consolidation of unconsolidated or poor consolidated materials
Theoretical and experimental study of consolidation of unconsolidated and poorly consolidated media through precipitation of an inorganic salt. Control of the depth of salt crystal formation and growth by a new alternating injection, mixing and reaction procedure (appropriate placement of soluble salt solutions, diffusion and dispersion, in-situ mixing of solutions, reaction between soluble salt ions, crystal precipitation and growth on grain surfaces, formation of bridges among grains and finally, “cementation” of the granular medium without excessive loss of the porous medium permeability). Applications: Consolidation of poorly consolidated oil reservoirs, stabilization of sandy soils for building purposes, protection of soil from water and wind erosion, water proofing of underground constructions (tunnels) and rainwater reservoirs.
