Departments Seminar Program (Webinars) - Professor Xi Chen (Zhejiang University)
Abstract
To enhance competitiveness of industry, the manufacturing should focus on high-quality and value-added products. Process optimization and control based on high-resolution models is still a challenging task in both academia and industry. Recent progress in polymerization processes with microstructural quality indices will be presented in this talk. For a polymer process characterized by complex kinetics among individual polymer chains, it is essential to capture quality indices through more detailed molecular descriptions, which requires the development and application of an efficient, robust, and powerful optimization strategy and modeling framework. This talk presents the novel simulation and optimization strategies for model development, process synthesis and design, and the operation of polymer processes. The effectiveness of the advanced optimization-based approaches will be demonstrated through industrial applications. Future directions are given, with the aim of benefiting both research and application in this field.
